Thanks to supporters like you, OHS has become a leader in assisting pets in need of rescue. And through our Second Chance Program, we bring thousands of pets each year from more than 90 other shelters struggling with too many pets and not enough adopters. We also find adopters for more than 11,000 pets each year.
This experience makes us the perfect organization to help out when another local shelter is in need of assistance.
The Klamath Animal Shelter in southern Oregon had not just one, but two large rescues involving criminal cases over the past year. Due to two lengthy legal cases, the days that the pets were in the Klamath Falls shelter began to multiply, and so did the number of pets: dogs who were pregnant at the time of their rescue began giving birth.
OHS staff partnered with the leaders in Klamath Falls, navigating the criminal justice system together so that these pets could be released from custody in these criminal cases. Their hard work paid off and these pets were finally released from their legal limbo.
We brought three dozen dogs and cats to our shelter in Portland for adoption. As you can see from these photos, they sure were cute, and quickly went to new homes!
The Klamath Animal Shelter staff sent OHS a kind note:
“We are grateful for the partnership we have with Oregon Humane Society that allowed these dogs to find forever homes and get the additional care that was needed for them. Because of you, the pets and our communities are better off.”
While working to save the lives of pets in our community-based shelter, we are also able to help other shelters save lives in their communities as well, because of the generosity of supporters like you. Thank you!
