Happy Puppy Day from our pups to yours. See more and larger images in the gallery below.
A day to celebrate puppies and the unconditional love and joy they bring to our lives? Sounds like something we should celebrate every day!
This day to recognize puppy love, promote adoption of dogs in need at shelters around the country (and the world), raise awareness about puppy mills and more, was started in 2006 and is promoted each year by Animal Planet.
OHS staff and volunteers tend to have a few pets at home, as you can imagine. Here are just a few of our own pups in celebration of National Puppy Day. Happy puppy day from our pups to yours!
See below for both puppy pictures and then-and-now comparisons of some of our pups. We love our adult dogs, too.

Puppies and Dogs at OHS
Here at OHS, the average length of stay at the shelter (time until adopted) is just one week. There’s never a time limit on an animal’s stay at OHS—pets are adopted quickly here thanks to our compassionate community of animal-lovers.
That one week is the average for all pets here: cats, dogs, small animals—and it includes young and old, healthy and medical/behavioral considerations. Puppies at OHS usually find a home within just one day. As a result, OHS does not have a large number of puppies for adoption right at this moment. You can see all currently available dogs on our website here, which is updated every 15 minutes. Refresh your page often and come visit when pets catch your eye.
OHS does have a variety of dogs available for adoption, including many who are one year or older. These dogs would each love to go home with you, and come with lots of benefits, such as: adult dogs may already be housetrained; know commands and tricks; be more relaxed and less excitable; and already have an established personality so you can tell if you will be a good match for one another.
