The Rachel Ray Save Them All grant from Best Friends supports the OHS Second Chance program, which helps pets who have run out of time at other shelters. Last year, this program helped more than 6,300 pets from 92 shelters in Oregon, California and beyond. When Second Chance pets arrive at OHS, they receive any needed medical or behavior care and are offered for adoption with no time limit.
“This grant will help us to find forever homes for even more pets in need,” said OHS President and CEO Sharon Harmon. OHS hopes to adopt out more than 650 dogs and cats to loving families through the grant from the Best Friends Animal Society. OHS is an active partner in the Best Friends Network, which offers help and support to animal rescue groups and shelters that save lives in their local communities.
About OHS: OHS is the Northwest’s oldest and largest humane society. OHS relies on private donations to support its adoption, education, and animal cruelty investigation programs. OHS finds homes for more pets than any other single-shelter animal facility in the West and never places a time limit on how long a pet remains available for adoption.
About Best Friends Animal Society: Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization dedicated exclusively to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. A leader in the no-kill movement, Best Friends runs the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, adoption centers and spay and neuter facilities in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City as well as lifesaving programs in partnership with more than 1,600 rescue groups and shelters across the country. Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in American shelters from 17 million per year to an estimated 4 million.
By continuing to build effective initiatives that reduce the number of animals entering shelters and increase the number who find homes, Best Friends and its nationwide network of members and partners are working to Save Them All®.
