OHS partners with Fences for Fido and Street Dog Hero to care for pets in Warm Springs.
On Feb. 19, eight members of OHS’ medical team and three members of the Outreach team traveled to Warm Springs to assist at a Wellness and Vaccine Clinic for pets. The effort was led by Fences for Fido, who have been working in Warm Springs for several months.
OHS vehicles were loaded with medical supplies, pet food, collars, harnesses, and leashes. Thanks to support from Zoetis, there was ample supply of vaccines, flea treatment and other medications.
The Clinic was held at the Warm Springs Fire Station where areas were set up for each family and their pet to meet with a veterinarian and a member of the medical team. A separate, quiet room was set up for cat exams and vaccinations.
The people and pets who came to the clinic all had different stories, but they shared a deep love for their animals.
Many families were caring for multiple dogs. In some cases, stray dogs just showed up at their home so they were now considered part of the family.
One of the most touching stories of the day came from a woman who arrived with her German Shepherd. Her son recently passed away and the dog had been his pet. She now took care of the dog, and it was clear they shared a special bond.
The OHS team left the day feeling connected to this special community and eager to return.
In March, OHS will be partnering with Fences for Fido and Street Dog Hero for another clinic in Warm Springs focused on spay / neuter.
Outreach efforts like this help keep the bond between people and animals strong and create a More Humane Society.
