The Oregon Humane Society is asking the public to open their hearts to a group of cats rescued earlier this month from the home of a Milwaukie resident who was the subject of an animal neglect investigation. Read the story here.
The cats, which range in age from two to ten years old, will be available for adoption starting at 10 am on July 24 at OHS. Their photos and profiles will be posted here as they become available.
A total of 41 cats were seized July 10 from a single-family residence located near the Jennings Lodge neighborhood. The owner of the cats subsequently relinquished ownership of the pets to OHS, allowing adoptions to go forward.
All of the rescued cats are expected to be made available for adoption. The first group of about 15 cats available on July 24 is the first to have their medical care—including extensive dental work—completed.
Adopters Encouraged to Adopt Cats Together
“Although these cats were living in overcrowded conditions, they are friendly and affectionate,” said Sharon Harmon, OHS executive director. Harmon urged adopters to take home more than one of the rescued cats. “The cats have lived together for a long time and in some cases have bonded with each other. Their lives will be much better if they go to a new home with a friend from their old home.”
Major Reduction in Adoption Fees
To help spur cat adoptions, from July 24-27, all cats six months or older can be adopted for just $10 (adult cat adoption fees are usually $55). After that date, adopters can still take advantage of our ongoing two-for-one cat and kitten adoption special instead. All cats available for adoption have received medical treatment at the OHS medical center and come spayed/neutered, with current vaccinations, a microchip ID, 30 days of free health insurance, and more.
