Answering a call for help, OHS yesterday welcomed 39 cats from a hospitalized West Linn resident who can longer care for the pets. The unexpected arrival of so many cats has forced shelter staff to convert dog kennels into living space for felines, as the OHS cattery was already operating at capacity with nearly 100 cats in the shelter.
The 39 West Linn cats appear to be well-cared-for by their owner and are healthy and well socialized. “This is not a neglect case,” said OHS Public Affairs Manager David Lytle.
“We are answering a call from the West Linn police department, which wanted to help an individual who has become seriously ill, but who loved his cats and realized he couldn’t care for them any longer.”
OHS has officially received ownership of all the cats, and yesterday began the process of making them available for adoption. The cats were examined, vaccinated, weighed and photographed by OHS staff in preparation for adoption.
How You Can Help
The West Linn cats are all adults and include a variety of short, medium and long-haired breeds. About 15 of the cats will be available for adoption on Friday, Aug. 12, with the remaining cats coming up for adoption soon after. The cats will appear on the OHS website when they are available for adoption.

My family adopted Tonka(2yr old male) last night out of this group of rescues. He was obviously loved and well taken care of. There was no hesitation in making the decision to adopt. He is adapting wonderfully. Not even a full 24 hours in our home and he is seeking me out for affection. He is already so loved.
