OHS offers adoption special to finish record-breaking year

Adoption special at the Oregon Humane Society aims to find every pet at the shelter a new home by the New Year.

In an effort to find loving homes for every pet at the shelter by the end of 2018, the Oregon Humane Society is offering an adoption special, Thursday, Dec. 27 through Monday, Dec. 31.

OHS recently surpassed the previous adoption record of 11,620 and is on track to reach 12,000 adoptions by the end of the year.

“The support of our community this year has been incredible.” says Sharon Harmon, OHS President and CEO. “We are so grateful to everyone who has opened their hearts and homes to pets in need.”

Through expanded partnerships with shelters and rescue groups throughout Oregon, around the region and across the country, OHS’s Second Chance program has been able to give more than 8,000 pets a second chance at a loving home. This is in addition to more than 3,300 owner-surrendered pets who have come to OHS to find a new home.

“It has really been a historic year,” added Harmon. “From celebrating our 150th anniversary, to assisting with natural disasters, and being able to save a record number of lives.”

During this special adoption event, fees will be $50 for dogs, $15 for cats, and 50 percent off adoption fees for puppies and kittens younger than six months. All adoptions include vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, one month of pet insurance for Oregon residents, a health exam with a vet of your choosing and a coupon from Mud Bay.

OHS hours for viewing and meeting pets are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, New Year’s Eve. The shelter is located at 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland, OR 97211. Directions here. Photos and profiles of pets looking for a home can be viewed here – https://www.oregonhumane.org/adopt/.
