Congratulations to the Jamutts team for winning the March Doggie Dash Challenge. One lucky member of the team will get to follow a veterinarian inside the OHS hospital for a first-hand look at how lives are saved. The team member will put on a mask and scrubs and walk beside an OHS surgeon as they help care for pets in the shelter hospital that performs thousands of needed surgeries each year.
Jamutts won the challenge because they added the most new team members (six!) during the week-long contest period. The team captain selected team member Connie Yoo to shadow the OHS veterinarian. We will share pictures and video of the visit when it happens in the near future—stay tuned!
The work of the OHS Holman Medical Center is paid for through donations like those from Doggie Dash—the largest dog walk and pet fundraising event in the West. OHS is not funded by any tax dollars; the shelter relies solely on donations in order to provide life-saving medical care for shelter pets.
What does the team name “Jamutts” mean, you ask? The Jamutts team are a group of employees and friends from Jama Software, a local tech company. Team Captain Marta Altree says Jama Software strongly believes in giving back to the community and grants employees two volunteer days off per year. Many company employees volunteered at OHS last year and then signed up for Doggie Dash this year. “Most of us are proud parents of rescue animals,” said Marta.
