OHS has been honored for achieving excellence in ethical business practices in the workplace, the environment and the community.
OHS received the Oregon Ethics in Business Award in the nonprofit category from the Rotary Club of Portland during a June 7 award ceremony. “The recipients of these awards,” said the club, “will have, by act and example, gone beyond the expected to achieve excellence in ethical business practices.”
OHS, along with the Oregon Food Bank and St. Andrew Nativity School, was one of three finalists in the nonprofit category. “OHS strives for accountability and transparency in all our actions,” said OHS Executive Director Sharon Harmon. “We take very seriously our responsibilities to our donors, to our community and to the animals we care for.”
In making the award, the Rotary Club considered ethical practices in the areas of management, human relations, and how an organization embraces transparency.
OHS is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the Northwest, adopting more pets than any other shelter facility. Other recipients of the Oregon Ethics in Business Award included David H. Sutherland & Co. and Leupold Stevens Inc. The awards were presented before an audience of 400 Oregon business leaders.
