In October, OHS’ Community Veterinary Hospital hosted a vaccine clinic for eligible pet owners—made possible thanks to a 2023 Subaru ASPCA Grant. The vaccines targeted common ailments like upper respiratory infection, Parvovirus, and rabies, each of which was offered at no cost. To qualify, pet owners simply showed proof of government assistance.
The first event of its kind to be held in the newly built hospital, staff saw more than 100 pets throughout the day, highlighting the incredible need within our community for these services, and the clinic’s success in meeting this need.
Attendees included a young couple who brought their mama cat, her 4-day-old kittens, and two small dogs. The family had limited resources but understood the importance of these vaccines for their beloved pets. While necessary for keeping pets healthy, these vaccines can become cost-prohibitive for many families.
During the event, staff also shared information on low-cost spay/neuter options and subsidized veterinary care. Additional resources like pet food, dog leashes, and harnesses were also available at no cost for those who needed them.
“These vaccines are something that all pets need to stay healthy,” says Sarah Yusavitz, OHS’ Corporate Relations Manager, “We are so grateful for the support that allows us to serve this need in our community.”
