Better Access to Care for Salem Shelter Pets
Oregon Humane Society Salem Veterinary Clinic provides thousands of spay and neuter surgeries and dental exams every year. Since opening its doors in 2010, OHS Salem Veterinary Clinic has spayed and neutered more than 68,000 pets.
However—due to the lack of on-site radiology resources in Salem—when a shelter pet requires x-rays or dentistry, they must be transferred to OHS Portland Campus, delaying treatment time and causing unnecessary stress to the animal.
Volunteers drive these shelter pets and wait for their x-rays, and then drive them back to our Salem campus for further treatment.
That is why we have launched the Salem Digital Radiology Project.
About the Project
By having a dedicated radiology and dentistry space at Oregon Humane Society Salem Campus, we will be able to provide shelter animals with more thorough and timely diagnoses and treatment plans.
The expansion of OHS Salem Veterinary Clinic will improve the standard of care for our shelter animals by adding two new rooms which will be used for radiology, dentistry, and veterinary exams.
Radiology Suite
The new radiology suite will result in faster, more accurate diagnoses for animals in Salem. It will include a state-of-the-art digital imaging unit that will help our veterinarians more accurately diagnose conditions such as bone fractures, internal injuries, and other painful issues.
Veterinary Exam & Dental Suite
The new veterinary exam and dentistry suite will include a wall-mounted digital dental x-ray machine, an exam table, an anesthesia machine, and patient monitors. This will allow the medical team to perform dental procedures while performing spay and neuter surgeries utilizing existing spaces.
